Lucion to address asbestos in schools issue at key Education Property Seminar

7th March 2018

Lucion Services has been invited to participate in a special national forum that will consider a range of design, health and safety and other policy issues affecting the school buildings sector.

The Westminster Education Forum Keynote Seminar, Next steps for school buildings and capital funding in England – school design, school places and site acquisition’

takes place in April and the specialist panel will include Nicky Honing, regional manager for Lucion’s Cardiff office.

The event will bring together property professionals, local councils and education authorities to consider a range of school building topics from planning for future demand to school building design and funding priorities.

Included will be a special session on health and safety in schools, including full consideration of the repair and refurbishment of the school estate, particularly in the light of the Department for Education’s request that additional building checks are carried out following the Grenfell Tower fire.

As part of this debate Nicky will also be advising on asbestos management issues by highlighting the need for a better understanding of the asbestos in schools issue, what safety compliance actually involves and how health and safety risks can be properly managed through air sampling, reassurance monitoring and exposure assessment programmes.

The high level seminar and forum aims to provide key education policymakers with the context for arriving at whatever decisions they see fit, and for all delegates to have the opportunity to lobby, learn, exchange views and network.
