Radon Risk Management

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep out of the ground and build up in houses and indoor workplaces. The highest levels are usually found in underground spaces such as basements, caves and mines.

High concentrations are also found in ground floor buildings because they are usually at slightly lower pressure than the surrounding atmosphere. This allows radon from the subsoil underneath buildings to enter through cracks and gaps in the floor.

The Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999, also apply to work with natural radiation, including work in which people are exposed to naturally occurring radon gas and its decay products.

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require the assessment of health and safety risks and this should include radon for above ground workplaces and below ground workplaces.

We are able to provide support to customers requiring a Radon Risk Report by liaising with Radon Protection Advisors to undertake the installation of radon measurement packs.

We are also able to undertake Radon Risk Assessments of those sites identified as high risk to confirm the levels of radon gas present.

On completion of a radon risk assessment and measurement analysis, a detailed report of recommendations for management will be made available.

In addition to this we are also able to undertake and manage the remedial works to reduce the levels of radon gas within the premises as low as reasonably practicable, in compliance with the acceptable exposure limit.
