Asbestos Demolition Survey

Lucion Environmental are a team of BOHS certified, experienced asbestos surveyors, analysts and consultants. Our surveyors conduct demolition asbestos surveys prior to the commencement of demolition work.

Working alongside our asbestos survey team, our dedicated asbestos consultants can help you manage your asbestos risks providing impartial, trusted advice about your project.

What is a demolition asbestos survey?

Demolition asbestos surveys (also known as pre-demolition asbestos surveys) were previously known as a type 3 asbestos survey under the old MDHS100 Guidance. Demolition surveys are fully intrusive. This asbestos survey is designed to identify all asbestos-containing materials using intrusive techniques to access all elements of the building’s construction.

Asbestos demolition surveys should be undertaken for all demolition projects to ensure that any asbestos-containing materials identified within the survey can be removed by a trusted and competent asbestos removal contractor prior to the demolition of the building.

The nature of a demolition asbestos survey is fully intrusive and should not be undertaken in a building that is occupied or due to be reoccupied by demolition workers after the survey.

What will the demolition asbestos survey report tell me?

Your asbestos demolition survey report will show you:

  • The location of asbestos-containing materials, if any
  • The type of asbestos found
  • The condition of the asbestos-containing materials

Demolition is a notoriously dangerous activity. To ensure we are safeguarding our team from danger specialist access equipment or contractors may be required to facilitate the inspection. To support this health and safety requirement, we can offer Construction Design Management (CDM) compliance, risk assessments, and health and safety advice throughout Health and Safety consultancy, Lucion Consulting, named ‘Best Risk Management Consultancy UK 2019’.

What are my responsibilities?

Ensuring the environment surrounding the demolition site and the grounds beneath your site, are not contaminated with hazardous materials is a requirement of the duty holder. Our laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO 17025 standard, meaning our team, equipment, and operational procedures have undergone a rigorous audit.

In addition, in Lucion’s case, separate UKAS accreditation has been gained for the use of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for the identification of very low quantities of asbestos in soils.

Our asbestos management team can help you to manage your asbestos risks before, during and after your demolition project.
