Asbestos Awareness Training

Lucion Services provided the Peabody Trust with UKATA approved asbestos training for over 4 years in order to assist them in managing asbestos across their property portfolio and remain compliant with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012).

Training is provided to all persons who may be exposed to asbestos-containing materials during their work and the management personnel who are responsible for those employees (e.g. building surveyors, maintenance engineers and project managers).

Lucion’s asbestos awareness training uses the approved UKATA syllabus and covers the Health effects of asbestos, asbestos materials used in buildings, legislation and emergency procedures.

Challenges

The client has their own corporate asbestos management policy and associated procedures and requires that these elements are incorporated into the training to ensure that the training assists in adherence to corporate policy.

In addition, each course is a half day session and hosts up to 15 delegates, many of which have different levels of reading and writing skill and do not necessarily use English as a first language.

The Solution

Our training consultant has worked with the client’s Duty Holders to understand the core aspects of their asbestos management procedures, including accessing asbestos information, risk assessment, PPE and RPE and emergency procedures. These have been incorporated into the training course, using their own procedures to base the training around and increase engagement and understanding.

For all training courses our trainers will allow sufficient time and additional materials to support delegates, including use of part completed test papers, one-to-one support and use of mobile apps to help with translation.

This demonstrates our ability to adapt our training services to meet our clients specific needs whilst also using UKATA approved syllabus to ensure training is to a consistently high standard that is recognised by UK regulatory bodies.

“The asbestos awareness course has always been very well received by all those at Peabody who have attended (over 300 in number). The course lasts half a day and is classroom based with a test at the end to check understanding. A key part of the course is that it covers not only regulation 10 of the asbestos regulations but also our asbestos management plan.

One reason for its continued success is the clear and concise manner in which it is delivered. This is recognised by the fact that, as far as we are aware, nobody who has attended this course has gone on to expose themselves or others to Asbestos, which is a remarkable record. It is superbly delivered by Sam Pearce.”
